It is our aim to create an atmosphere that fosters respect between students, and between students and teachers. An atmosphere for learning is easier to create when the development of healthy relationships is encouraged.
Uniforms
St. Lawrence Academy believes that uniforms help create unity, modesty and a sense of community for our students. Uniforms help eliminate peer pressure and work to lessen judgement and unhealthy comparisons. With that in mind, uniforms should be clean and in good repair. In an effort to keep costs down, we do help recycle uniforms as students grow or graduate. The uniform specifics are listed below.
All uniform purchases can be made online at Land’s End, with some alternatives being available at French Toast and a Spruceshad (green) Polo available from The Children's Place. Go to the uniform page on the school website for links to acceptable items from both suppliers. (Any school codes you need are right there on the page) These are the only acceptable items (except for socks, leggings, headbands etc. which you can purchase anywhere as long as they conform). Please do not purchase other items or similar items from different suppliers.
All students must come to school with hair neatly combed, and dressed in clean uniforms.
Boys wear an evergreen polo shirt and navy chino (not cargo) pants, NO shorts. Boys may wear white, black, or navy socks. Socks and shoes must be worn at all times. We offer four alternatives to the logo crew sweatshirt— regular sweatshirt, a hoodie sweatshirt (with or without zipper), a fleece jacket (full zip or half zip) and Cotton Modal V-neck Sweater, all of which must carry the logo (available only from Lands’ End). (Naturally, coats or jackets of any sort are allowed on the way to and from school or on the playground on really cold days.) Shoes should be of a conservative style and suitable for active outdoor play.
Girls wear an evergreen polo shirt and options are the navy or plaid pleated skirt or the longer navy skort, and the plaid or navy jumper. Please adjust hemlines to the knee as the girls grow. Girls may wear socks in navy, black, or white. Knee socks must be navy. Girls must wear modest navy blue or black shorts, tights, or leggings (to the ankle) under their skirts or jumpers for modesty in play. Girls may wear the optional uniform pants on approved field trips. Pants or sweatpants under skirts are not allowed. Headbands (girls only) must be evergreen, navy, white, or black, and must be functional rather than decorative in nature. Socks and shoes must be worn at all times. We offer four alternatives to the logo crew sweatshirt— regular sweatshirt, a hoodie sweatshirt (with or without zipper), a fleece jacket (full zip or half zip) and 2 new sweaters— Cotton Modal V-neck Sweater, and the girls Cotton Modal Button Front Cardigan Sweater, all of which must carry the logo (available only from Lands’ End). (Naturally, coats or jackets of any sort are allowed on the way to and from school or on the playground on really cold days.) Shoes should be of a conservative style and suitable for active outdoor play.
Please note: All skirts and jumpers should be at least to the middle of the knee. If your girl is on the tall side for her size, you may need to order a size larger or let hems down. Please adjust hemlines throughout the year as girls grow. Wearing uniform clothing from past years is acceptable as long as items conform to the above guidelines and are in very good repair.
Physical Education-Boys and Girls, Grades 5–8 ONLY
PE uniforms must be the designated Academy shirts and shorts purchased from Land’s End. The PE uniform consists of lace-up or Velcro athletic shoes with a closed toe, socks, mesh navy shorts (no cargo shorts), and an evergreen T-shirt. Academy sweatshirts and navy sweatpants may be worn for cold weather. Land’s End has separate styles for boys and girls in T-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts, and sweatpants. Both girls’ and boys’ options are acceptable.
Grades 1-4 do not need PE uniforms. The 3rd and 4th Graders do participate in a PE class 3 days a week and they may wear PE shorts if they would like. Please purchase the mesh navy shorts at Land’s End.
The logo may be applied to all uniform parts, if you choose, except pants and skirts. It is required on the sweatshirt, hoodie, sweater or jacket.
ALL clothing must be labeled at the neck or waistband with indelible marker or white iron-on tape, so we can help get lost items home.
Personal appearance:
- Students are expected to be clean and well-groomed at all times.
- Stained, ripped or torn clothing must be mended or replaced.
- Make-up, colored nail polish (clear is only option), temporary tattoos, and dangly or hooped earrings are not permissible.
- Girls' hair should be clean and neat. Small clips, ribbons or headbands that match the uniform or correspond to school colors are allowed and must be sensible/functional, rather than decorative in nature.
- Boys’ hair should be neatly cut and no longer than collar length.
- No student may dye his or her hair “unnatural” colors, ie: bright colors.
- No chokers, no more than one bracelet or one watch, simple hair clips/ties, Cross necklace
- NO perfume or cologne
Revisions and/or changes may be made, as necessary, throughout the year for the well being of the entire school community. School parents’ support of this policy is of the utmost importance, and all families are asked to monitor their students’ uniform attire on a daily basis.
Immunization Records
In compliance with California state law, immunization records are a requirement for enrollment at all preschools, elementary, middle and high schools. St. Lawrence Academy must have current records for all enrolled students.
Medication Administration
Prescription medications needing to be administered to students at school will need written parental permission with instructions. Non-prescription medication may be administered by a staff member with written or verbal parental or emergency contact permission.
Allergies, food sensitivities, and medical issues.
If your child has a special diet, takes medicine on a regular basis, or is allergic to specific foods we need specific guidelines from parents. We will need parents to supply special treats or foods, when necessary, for class parties or special occasions. The Academy tries to avoid using sugar treats as rewards and after liturgy, but occasionally we do offer cookies or some other treat. We will make every attempt to follow your directions, and we ask that you make sure your children are aware of and willing to follow your rules. Please call us with any concerns so we can make sure our students are safe and protected.
Volunteers, Presenters, and Substitute Teachers
We require volunteers and substitute teachers to complete the Parish Youth Safety Training (includes background check and fingerprinting). SLA reserves the right to immediately revoke the permission of the volunteer or substitute if SLA feels that said person is not conducting themselves in a manner (or is presenting material) that does not accurately represent the mission and goals of the school.
Bicycles
No bikes are to be ridden on campus. Bikes may be parked only in the bike rack on the south side of the church.
Personal Items
Students should not bring toys from home. No electronic equipment of any kind, including a cell phone, is allowed at school.
